Happy 31st Dad & Mom

It was my parent's 31st anniversary on August 4th! And I had to write a little something for them because they truly are the greatest parents and most loving married couple. I am so lucky to have them as mine!

My sweet parents have super opposite personalities and come from super opposite backgrounds and cultures. And when they met everything about them got meshed together into one big ball of amazing. They are such great examples of love, service & laughter. Not only with each other but with everyone around them as well. Its always been so inspiring growing up with parents who are so happy. And they've always put their children first. Isaac and I are lucky, lucky children. I found some old photos when I was looking for a few to put up with this post. I had these on CD from when I made our "growing up DVD" for Preston & my wedding. And looking back I have so many memories of laughing, dancing and cooking as a family.

Me with my Mother (check out those high waisted jeans!)

Me and my Daddy. My love for straws started young...
I wish I had some of their wedding photos on CD and so as I'm posting this I'm making a mental note to get our extensive family albums scanned into digital copies. I've always loved my parent's engagement photo. We had it up in our home growing up. My Mom looks so beautiful in it. One time when I was quite young we had some friends over for dinner and I saw one of them looking at it. I got the proper terms mixed up in my head and declared "Isn't that a pretty photo? That's my parent's when they got divorced!" It took me a minute to realize why she started laughing at me. Ooops! I was so embarrassed! Thankfully my parents have a strong marriage. It is such a blessing and something I can never fully express my gratitude for.

I want to share a quick story about each of them:

My Mom is the kindest person you will ever meet. One of my fond memories of us bonding was when I turned 12. When I turned 12 I was allowed to start wearing light makeup. So right before my birthday she got out all of her makeup and samples of every color she could get her hands on. We went through each item and she taught me how to put it on properly and we figured out which colors of eye shadow I liked. I couldn't wear dark lipstick yet but just for that day I got to try on that too. It was so fun. I was so excited. I totally thought at 12 that I had become a real woman. (So funny). I wanted to look just like her, and I wished my hair was curlier like hers. We had so much fun! Then when my real birthday came I received the makeup we had picked out for me as my gift. And I was overjoyed. She made me feel so grown up and special.

I think my love for lipstick started young too
My Dad is a total crack up. He brought humor and laughter into our home when we needed it most. When I was younger he traveled a lot for work and was able to visit so many exotic and fascinating places. He would always bring us home a little present. In my case it was usually dolls or jewelry. I still have my ring he got me from India and wear it to this day. It's silver and has a gorgeous turquoise stone center. He had gone for a longer trip, I can't remember where now, and we had an earthquake when he was gone. We were so afraid. I remember my Mom hauling us under a sturdy table and making us hold on to the table legs. Thankfully we really were totally fine. The worst of the damage was the shingles that had been pulled loose and flew everywhere off of our roof. But I was so young I was shaken and all I wanted was my Daddy to be there so bad. He protected me and I felt safe when he was home. He got back a few days later and I just remember running into his arms and being so glad he was back. That night he stayed up extra late even though he was probably exhausted from flying for 12+ hours. He read us stories from the scriptures and he played us songs on his guitar until we fell asleep.

Don't be jealous of my name shirt!
So happy anniversary to my parents. I could not have asked for a better example of what love looks like!

How adorable is Isaac in this sailor outfit?!

Xoxo
